We had a big group over for Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. It’s one of my favorite holidays. It’s probably because a big turkey with all of the delicious side dishes that go with it makes up one of my all-time favorite meals. Yummy sweet potatoes with brown sugar and melted marshmallows, buttery mashed potatoes made from scratch, fresh green beans with slivered almonds, and of course biscuits and gravy. Then there are the numerous desserts like pumpkin and pecan pie, hot apple pie topped with vanilla ice creams, and much more. What’s not to like? My family was surprised to see that some of my dishes were cooked in Romertopf Clay Cookware since many of them had not heard of this cookware before.

I love this classic affordable cookware for many of my smaller meals and side dishes. When I make a meat dish inside the cookware it always tastes incredible plus it’s unbelievably tender. The dishes are also perfect for roasting vegetables or baking fish too. The trick to using them is to soak them in water before filling them with your food and also to make sure you place the containers in a cold oven before turning it on.

If you’ve been pouring maple syrup over your blueberry pancakes, you’re missing a real treat. Don’t get me wrong, maple syrup is yummy, but doesn’t compare to a fabulously sweet and beautiful Blueberry Topping. You know what the color of blueberries does to the pancake. Well, the gorgeous deep purple color really stands out when you make the topping. It’s not only beautiful, but the flavor of the blueberries intensifies when you cook it up and turn it into this incredible topping. I like to top it off with just a bit of whipped cream for a little cool, smooth added sweetness.

If you’re lucky enough to be able to pick fresh blueberries, you probably already have a few inexpensive fruit recipes ready as soon as you walk through the door with your baskets. You know how they taste right after you pick them, and that’s the taste you want to preserve. If you can’t pick fresh, visit your local farmers market as soon as the blueberry season begins. This is a wonderfully nutritious and delicious fruit – a fruit worth going out of your way for!

The CorningWare 17-Piece Bakeware Set is probably the best deal around for people that are looking to pick up a versatile and comprehensive set of cookware. CorningWare itself is well-known for making durable, high-quality cooking products, and the fact that there are seven pieces means that you will likely be prepared for just about any cooking situation that life throws at you. This set is available in French White, with a fluted design that will suit any decor or food dish. Included in the set are commonly-used items such as lidded casserole dishes in various sizes, and ramekins. Because of the understated beauty of the dishes, they can double as serving dishes and be taken straight from the oven to the dining table. A wire rack for the largest casserole makes transporting weighty dishes safe and easy.

Finally, these dishes resist stains and odors, and are dishwasher safe, so they will save you time even after the meal is finished. All in all, this white bakeware set is an excellent value for anyone starting their cookware collection, or simply looking to augment what they already have with some versatile pieces made by a trusted manufacturer.

My family used to turn their noses up at the mention of corn chowder until I started making my crock pot corn chowder. It’s really called Corn Potato Chowder in my house because the potatoes play a big part in the success of this dish. The potatoes add just the right creaminess and heartiness to the chowder and make this soup or chowder a real meal-in-a-bowl.

Because this is one of my crock pot recipes that is meatless, we often turn to this meal when we’re at the end of the paycheck. Without meat, we can feed our family and even some drop-in neighbor kids for a fraction of the cost of a meat-based meal. We add bacon for flavor and serve a little crusty bread alongside just to stretch the chowder out a bit. I especially like making chowder in the crock pot because, like all soups that have milk as an ingredient, it takes some watching on top of the stove to make sure it doesn’t boil or scorch. The crock pot is the perfect way to slow simmer this fabulous Corn Chowder.

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving has come and gone. It has always been one of my favorite holidays filled with wonderful family memories and of course, delicious foods. We spent the holiday at my sister’s house this year and it was perfect. She had a big 22-pound turkey with some of our favorite sides like sweet potato casserole, cranberry stuffing, cheesy mashed potatoes, biscuits, and gravy. Needless to say, there were a lot of leftovers. And when it comes to leftovers, there never seems to be enough food storage containers when you need them. That’s why I love this CorningWare 8 Piece Casserole Set.

This versatile Casserole Set comes in the classic French White style, which looks great in any kitchen. It has 4 good-sized casserole dishes with matching glass lids for easy serving and easy storing. CorningWare is known for it’s durable stoneware that can go in the oven, the microwave, the fridge, and the freezer too. I love having these dishes because you can make all of your side dishes in them and then just put the covers on and pop the leftovers in the fridge for another day. When the food is all gone, you just place them in the dishwasher for easy clean up. You just can’t beat the value of this handy set of ceramic and glass bakeware.

My grandmother used to make the most wonderful, tender butter beans I’ve ever tasted. And this is coming from a girl who to this day can’t stand lima beans. In fact, I get goose bumps (and not the good kind), just thinking about them. But there’s just something that changes them when they are turned into butter beans. Unfortunately grandma never got around to writing down her recipe for these delicious buttery beans.

I’ve since tried all kinds of different bean recipes, but I just can’t get them quite right. I’m not ready to give up though. There are literally hundreds of butter bean recipes on the internet and with some tweaking and my childhood memories of watching grandma cook these beans, I’m sure I’ll be able to replicate her dish sometime. And when I do, I’ll be sure to write the recipe down. Until then, I’ll just keep trying and to be honest, I’m actually enjoying this process of discovery. As an added side-benefit, I’m also finding all kinds of recipes for other dishes. I’ve been cooking up a storm and expanding our meal horizon quite a bit in the process.
